Give em' time... JP: 3D has to be around the corner. Do you know something? They ARE ACTUALLY THINKING ON THAT. Since 2006, Johnston said they were thinking on doing new JP movies on 3D. I read that on some of the interview links that are on wikipedia regarding JP4.

It makes sense...and I can't see a raptor leaping out of the screen and into my face as not freaking cool. Recall the scene from TLW..just imaging that Raptor when he leaps on the guy coming at the audience instead..instant win. ;D

They can shoot it like Pirates 4 , where it's shot in 3D but you don't need the 3D to enjoy it. I'm going to see Pirates both ways I guess and then decide which is best. Those darn glasses don't fit over MY glasses very well.
I can imagine several scenes from previous films done in 3D that would look awesome now..and if it draws people back and gets a new JP film out there I'd say it please most fans.

Problem is when a director pictures a 3D film in his mind, he doesn't bother anymore thinking on screenplay values because he considers everything is on the image. And, if the JP franchise had a weakness, it was the lack of deep script and character development. They worked fine because they had the minimum of it, but then now imagine if you totally eliminate the interesting premises, the plot twists and the ironic commentaries of unidimensional but still very likable characters. What do you have left? You have a nursery-school storyline with zero surprises and a bunch of generic characters who look all the same and the viewer is unable to recognize and zero winks to mature audiences and... A LOT OF 3D. Don't want that on my JP dish. Thanks.

Any film not just 3D ones takes more than just a director thinking of what he wants. A lot of films are just hoping that 3D will carry them..but there are exceptions. Hopefully JP will be among those instead of the rest.
If a new JP does come out in the next few years it will probably be in 3D just following the trend.

3D would work rather well with JP4. Hope it's good 3D and not gimmicky.
Good 3D: Avatar, Legend of the Guardian.
Bad 3D: Piranhas 3D, Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans

Oh, wait. You mean the James Cameron movie. I thought, at first, that you meant the M. Night Shamamalamadingdong (Avatar) The Last Airbender. It's on my mind because my kids are currently watching the awesome show right now, again. That movie sucked for reasons far beyond its poor 3D. And the main reason 3D almost always fails is that instead of a story, they look for ways to COME AT YOU! It's AWESOME! Or annoying.

The James Cameron movie had some very impressive 3D multi-scrolling parallax effects going on.... Good 3D allows for depth into the screen (as opposed to merely popping objects out of the screen at you). However, Pterosaurs and Raptors might be ideal in a 3D coming-at-you kinda way....although, they should consider utilizing the jungle and other draw distances for depth enhancement 3D...a balanced combination of going into the screen and out of the screen should be cool, I suppose...

Oh, wait. You mean the James Cameron movie. Really? The James Cameron movie? Even JP3 had more character development and plot than Avatar... Surely an awesome visual work, but behind that there was nothing but CelineDionesque insipidness and a plot that could have been written by a 13-year-old boy. If you refer to how good the CGI and 3D on Avatar was, I surely do agree, it was awesome and better than anything made before. But If you say Avatar was a good movie, I strongly disagree with all my heart. And it's another example on how less important the script is when the visuals are the main attraction. Well, guess what, I go to the movies mainly to be told exciting stories. I can enjoy watching pretty pictures for maybe 15 minutes, but I simply cannot stand 2 hours of pretty pictures with no content.

Avatar was truly spectacular visually, and had the best 3D work yet seen, drawing you in to the picture as well as having things popping out.
However, you did get the niggling feeling as you sat there, awestruck by the scenery, that the story just wasn't all that good...and wow, did those pious blue furries get annoying...

That's interesting...I actually go to movies for the special effects, and the pretty pictures...when a movie has a budget of, I dunno, 200 $ million (mostly due to its proprietary special effects), it's quite surreal in that that you actually take in the essence of the movie (and its associated production value) for only about $12...It would be a waste to see a special effects heavy movie at your couch.... ...However, for the story content, I prefer watching the movie on my PC or TV... ...the Avatar is an okay movie (about 7.9/10), but the special effects bumps it up a notch (8.9/10)...its not a spectacular movie (at least in terms of its Pocahontas inspired story line) by any means, but it is an experience....

Careful on the Avatar topic, folks, I remember a mod (wasn't he?) loosing it over this movie in my first week on these boards, just because I stated I wasn't impressed by it while his mind was literally blown away. That was really... weird...

That was really... weird... That wasn't one of the mods--it was a now-gone member who had a propensity toward...passionate responses.
