I was reading that there is coming a giant comet in November. They think that the comet wil not reach Earth, but they are not really sure. Like by the dinosaurs.....

Hi ichty, it depends on how you look at it dinosaurs evolved. Earth is already changing. Like in germany a 50 meter long and 4 meter deep gap. And also in parts of America. Maybe they will form new rivers. THE Same counts for Japans quake and earths axis shift, it was not a coincedent that the magnetic field changed weeks before it. Birds and fish died because of new air currents. I read à couple of days ago our sea gets warmer. Endings are also new beginings. But do not fear. For à meteorite. Lets say it Will crash. And all life dies. At least we Will have à good show and the blast will be so hot. You won't know it. As yoda sais fear is the power of the dark Side. Fear Leads to anger, anger to hate, hate to suffering.

Fear Leads to anger, anger to hate, hate to suffering. Magnetic field change? What, are you getting your science education from the (terrible) movie The Core? The field is constantly changing--that's why you always have to recalibrate a compass. And it doesn't have any effect on earthquakes, or weather, or meteors. As for warming seas, etc, that's part of the whole 'global climate shift' thing that is more likely due to carbon issues than anything else. As for comets, etc, there isn't anything we can do if they are going to hit earth. So just keep on living, and remember that the universe doesn't care.

Because you wouldn't be around to shed one! ;D I knew it would be too obvious... ;D But still, if there has ever been one species so deservant to die out, it would be humanity. They're more trouble then they're worth, especially for all the other earthlings. I don't know--I think we could happily do away with mosquitoes and nobody would mind--except maybe the parasites that use them as hosts (animals that currently prey on them will still have lots of other annoying insects and larvae to go after).

Mosquito's are also pollunators, only the females are troublemakers. I wouldn't mind if ticks were gone. Pesky little terrors they are. Sneeking around in the grass.

I could do without cockroaches and fire ants, the scourges of the South. Nothing much eats them either; they wouldn't be missed.

We may exist to clean the slate for future species or we may play another unforeseen role. No species had ever existed on this planet quite like us and though our role will likely have a short term negative impact who knows what the long term will be.

No species had ever existed on this planet quite like us and though our role will likely have a short term negative impact who knows what the long term will be. Species aren't being assigned roles, they get niches. Humans gave well exceeded their niche and basically went on an ecological rampage, destroying whole species and ecosystems for selfish short term profit. Speaking from an ecological view point, humans are mad. If we have a role, it's self-destruction. I just feel so bad about all those other species we're taking with us, in only a few thousand years time. Doesn't feel fair to them. It's certain that it's fair... Nature had done of all of this originally. And also there's the whole natural selection thing... If you can't adapt you die. That's how it's been since, well, forever

The whole of nature can't adapt to the full extent of human greed in such a short period of time. You know what? Nature will survive, since it's a human construct anyway (just like greed, and arrogance, and self-pity...). It is arrogant to think that humans can actually end life as we know it on this planet. It will change--certainly--as life has always done, but it will survive (until the sun expands). In other words, we get it, you wish to stay alive but for some reason wish the rest of the species to go extinct. Guess what? Want to know something fun? Every other species would, in its own way, 'love' to wipe out all other species, use all of the resources 'themselves', and dominate the planet. That's what natural selection, taken to an extreme, is. That's why ants will forever be our unseen overlords. Not a single other aspect of the universe cares one bit about humans. And on the truly grand scale, the universe doesn't even care that this planet is here--indifference is the rule, not the exception. I shouldn't get into these discussions, but it is just such a colossal waste of time. Do something productive about it, or state your piece and get on with it. Really, though, this is the DINO TOY FORUM. Perhaps a nihilist forum would be better suited to this kind of discussion, because honestly it brings nothing to this forum.

I understand ecology quite well and I am fully aware of what we've done to the planet, but thanks for the refresher course anyway. You talk about humans as though you aren't one. If you're so concerned about what we're doing to the planet why are you part of a hobby that uses resources to make figures of extinct animals? Surely all that material would be better used elsewhere correct? I hope in your free time you're doing your part to make this place a better world and not sitting around the house hating on your own species. Believe me, I have a lot more to say on the subject but I think Sbell summed it up nicely already.

Okay, guys - open your "After Man - A Zoology Of the Future" books at page 32. There you see what will happen to our species. I will not judge on it. I just always try to decide for what I think is right. That´s all I can do. As for the meteor - shrug. It will hit earth or it won´t. Has nothing to do with nihilism. It´s just a thing I can´t change so it´s not worth paying any attention.

Today is the day of "rapture" by Harold Camping so happy rapture day and end of the world! Oddly, I don't think we have anything to worry about. ;D I still can't believe it made the national news over here. Actually, I can, 'cos it was a great laugh. On Channel 4 news they had the presenter being 'raptured' at the end, leaving an empty suit behind. Just for giggles.
