It'll make a nice companion to a Quetzalcoatlus.

^^^Why exactly?
Hey dinonikes, any ideas on which reconstruction you're going to use for your sculpt?

Wow! You mean I actually suggested something that's going to made? Very cool! I really like ol' Orni!! And as far as the WwD figure, I'm glad you're not going to copy that one. Like I said in the other thread, with Malcolm's sculpting talents, now's our chance to get a really good replica! From the few pics I've seen of the WwD Orni, I thought it was ok, but not great by any means. Also, if this guy is going to be a full 1/40 scale, with that wingspan of around 40 feet, he's going to be a big fella! That should give this figure a wingspan of about a full foot across, if I'm doing this right! Cool!

Thhat's the thing about Pteros..big wingspans , little bodies...lol
I maybe wrong, but I think Dinonikes will have to change his cardboard outline method slightly for these...heh I built a coule 1/1 Pteranodons last year..a perched and flying one..I'm not sure which which was more difficult...though I didn't reinforce the flying one's wing joints enough and one broke in a storm a couple months back..now I have to figure out how to fix him... :?

^No the cardboard will actually make a good wing membrane- I will just skin over the cardboard with just enough clay to be able to make a texture-

^^^Why exactly? Hey dinonikes, any ideas on which reconstruction you're going to use for your sculpt? I haven't really settled on a reference material yet- just decided to makethis guy yesterday. I usually google image searchto try to find the right images- in this case I will need to find a fairly accurate shot of it with its wings out all the way from either directly above or below- I will be researching tonight a bit- i have quite a few books to peruse as well- i usually find multiple sources to work from- and then mix them together to find an average if that makes sense-

by the way- this guy has such a cool looking head that i have given up on the idea of the beak in the water for him, as his head should be up to be on display- I will devise a simple to make base for it- so it will be flying.

Also the body would be 5 1/2 meters (inches) long part of which would be the head 1.5 meters (1 1/2 inches) long.

Wow, it looks like it's going to be a big impressive figure ;D I'm glad to see this species given attention again after the WWD set dropped it. Although the TS toy did a pretty good and impressive attempt at it, all with wings folded So far, the lines of figures you have produced have been very different from each other and all look amazing

Any thought of having him looking off to one side just a bit and maybe down some? Hmm, I guess he is looking down a bit, huh?
Anyway, would be a more interesting behavioral pose, as if looking for or spotting prey, and would allow for the more standard one for any crested pterosaur you might do in the future--which would benefit more from the straightforward head position--without being redundant.
Also, now that I see those teeth in MC's p.2 post, the position would work well with them to emphasize the animal's predatory nature.
Just a thought since you're likely still at an early stage.

^No the cardboard will actually make a good wing membrane- I will just skin over the cardboard with just enough clay to be able to make a texture- I was concerned the added weight would be a problem..just a heads up really....but you prob know better what your doing anyway... heh ;D Looking at the diagram and using my imagination..that's going to be a nice piece for sure !
