I wouldn't worry about the position of the rod much...it can be changed easily with a small drill bit and the old hole ( if that is in fact where it is being left ) can be easily filled with putty. Of course mine will prob be hanging from the ceiling so it won't matter much to me either way...lol That top shot sold me...you can feel the muscle rippling..and also feels big and powerful...a monster if ever there was one eh ? ;D

The wire position is just to keep it out of my way more during sculpting- the final support rod will be positioned underneath, in the belly- like the muraenosaurus-

It's not my own unfortunatly...(someone on JPT did a pic with a Megalodon I found..looked really good ) though I can't imagine why I didn't think of it..all the time I spent playing with mine in the pool..sometimes it seemed an endless ocean..with the darkest of depths..heh heh

Oh my Amazing work, I love all the details Mhm, two things: -Are you sure you got the measures right? The tail and the body look a tad too short compared to the head but it could be the angle -Perhaps the rib zone should be a little more prominent?

Fox has corrected and updated much of the initial posting, and I've added more in about current replicas, here: " Tylosaurus: Popular Culture’s Oceanic T. rex" www.cryptomundo.com/cryptozoo-news/tylosaurus/I shall be happy to update it with links to any models people wish to sell of this marine reptile. Cheers.

I used a reference dead on side profile image from the Oceans of Kansas site to make my armature, so proportions should be within range- that is the site by the same guy who advised/ consulted on the Carnegie Tylo. I figured the image looked pretty good and on that site they have great photos of one of the big Tylo skeletons mounted and hanging from the ceiling of the museum. I used those photos most to work on my Tylo head and mouth- I do have the little teeth inside the mouth, withthe accurate configuration ofthem-I have to saythat i was thinking of monitor lizards aswell, and was looking at reference photos of them when i sculpted my Tylo- the main things I took from monitors is the back -I gave my figure a recessed spine like a lot of monitors have wherethe back muscles bulge away from the spine- harder to explain-betterto just look at photos of monitors to see what i mean-i also used the side fold/ridge that a lot of monitors have, also modeled my head on them as well- I really have a much beefier looking Tylo than the Carnegie one- I think that might make it look shorter to some people especially in photos- also i made the tail a bit larger with larger fin areas alongthe top and bottom-a lot ofthis was to give it a certain look that I wanted a mosasaur to have- I originally had more ribcage definition but it didn't fit in with the fat well fed look I was getting-

Its very cool, a pair of them would even look better, maybe a slightly smaller one swimming beside or underneath this one.

Nice work again, Malcolm!
Although, I think I have to agree with Tomhet about the rib cage. I also agree with you not to make the ribs look like they're protruding from the sides, making him look malnourished. But, I think the chest area should be deeper/drop down some more, so it is a little thicker/deeper than the rest of the body.
Also, the bottom jaw looks a bit too thick at the end. It doesn't seem to taper as much as the upper jaw, but it does seem to taper a little more than you have it. And, it looks like it might also be a little long. If they were closed, it seems like the lower jaw, as is, would be a bit longer than the upper jaw, when it should be slightly shorter. But, this also could be an illusion caused by the thicker end of the lower jaw.
When making these observations, I'm looking at the second dead-on side view pic.
But, all-in-all, great work on this guy -- very nice details! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished colored version. Any ideas for the colors and patterns yet?
