*PROPER*!!! Outstanding detail work!! (Wish I could paint like that!!) It looks like you lengthened the lower jaw a tad, and added a little "curve" to the top jaw where the lower jaw teeth fit in (what is that thing called - a rosette?) Pleased to make your acquaintance paleoferroequne - its nice to see that there are other "customizers" or "re-sculptors" out there!! Check out my garage kit gallery for examples of my work - nothing like that paint job of yours, but I think you'll find a few pieces in there of interest. (Link is below in my signature line) P.S. Do you have a website? Would love to see more of your outstanding work! Thanks for the compliments, no webpage but a link to some photos at Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/42365905@N06/I have already seen your website even before I found this one. You've got some fantastic conversion there ;D In fact it started me looking around for more web sites and to finally here. I started to get more dinosaur toys after a lull in my purchases. Nice photo work! A couple of questions - where did the Gastonia and Acrocanthosaurus come from? Sculpted from scratch or modifications of what figures? Both are uber-cool, especially the Gastonia (my favorite armored dino)....

Well, it's not quite there in terms of scientific accuracy, but it's still much better than the original, and the paint job and dewlap are fantastic. It's a really great piece of work. Maybe in some tiny nit picky areas but seriously, I would take this over any spinosaurus model available on the market now any day. The skull is still much more baryonyx like. This one isn't very spinosaurus like at all. But I'm not complaining! It's great! Really! Years ahead of the original!

Very impress and Marshall-esque. I like it! Have you considered using a dark wash to really bring out the scales? Actually, there is a dark wash and dry brushing on it but the photo doesn't show it up well, the brown is already dark. Plus you have to be careful with a wash or it will muddy up everything. Just like the colours are off, the orange isn't that bright at all and the yellow on the head and elsewhere comes off green, it's not. I tried to tweak the colour with a photo program but it didn't work, the other colours got messed up. The colours look great the way they are, Washes may make things look more realistic but then you loose the real 'zing' the colours add to a figure. Great Work,

Don't let my compliments understate the value of your work, but that truly is exceptional.

Don't let my compliments understate the value of your work, but that truly is exceptional. Thanks again. I want everybody to know that already Spiny is under the knife again for jaw work and new dentures I hope they are improvements! As to the skull looking more like Baryonyx, everything I have seen indicates a more gracile skull for Baryonyx, Spinosaurus was a bit more robust. And the jaws of Baryonyx were narrower than Spinosaurus. Now, the Papo head is kinda all wrong, way too wide and long among other things which is why I narrowed it. If I had wanted to the best thing for me to do would have been a new head, but let's not get into that ;D

Hope this is of some help. Spinosaurus: One of the best reconstructions I've found on the Internet - shaded bits are known material. More Spinosaurus (a-stealing images I will go!) Baryonyx The above is a bit of an old image though, the skull may well have been lower towards the rear as in the Skeletal Drawing image below (based on Suchomimus) I wouldn't say yours looked too Baryonyx-like, personally.

The Japanese really have it best - best dino models, best (only?) dino-expos, I could go on but I'd get in trouble.....

I'd certainly love to have been able to see that Spinosaurus up close. Looks spectacular. By the way Al, I'm intrigued as to how being a Japanophile could 'get you in trouble'....

Erm...fair enough.
So, that Spinosaurus skeleton was quite something, yes?

I was just trying to get back on topic since there is the potential for a huge, pointless argument.

Needless to say, this thread is getting ridiculous. I will have to delete all the non-related comments. I'd advise you all to stop derailing.

Paleoffrequine:
About customizing the jaw; are you going to slice down the middle of the upper jaw and remove a 'slice', then reattach and putty the pieces?
That has worked for me in the past with a couple of customizations. As a side bonus, that method can be extended to make the entire head narrower (make sure you remove and then reattach the nice crest you made first, though.
Naturally the head would have to be removed from the body first and then reattached, but again, that is the easy part ...
