Today I've finished the Paleocraft Uintatherium. Did I mention I really like these Paleocraft models? Of course I did but I can't quit saying it again. This one was really easy, too.

It's beautiful! As we expect, of course.

Thanks, Himmapaan! I think I should stick to the easy-to-paint models like this one, Platybelodon, Brontotherium etc. There's still a lot to learn and I am so glad I didn't have to make a complex colour pattern on this one.

It's WONDERFUL & you're acting really fast! The Paleocraft models are very high class and yet quite affordable. I haven't seen better prehistoric mammals to date. Is this some extra grass on the base or is it just painted?

Is this some extra grass on the base or is it just painted? Nice that you noticed it! That's grass fiber by "Busch Modellbahn" in summer colours light green, yellowish, and orange (there are other equally good manufacturers, though). I've already used it for the Tamiya Dinosaur Diorama bases (and at the scale our figures normally are, you cannot really tell if that's grass, clubmosses or moss ). It's easy to use, just mix any acrylic colour with white glue, brush it on the parts where the vegetation should be, pour grass fibers on and then pat off the excess fibers (which can be reused). Additionally, I used weathering pigments by the same company, these also include green pigments that can be used for areas covered with moss or algae.

Are those two color variations on the invicta pliosaur? Do you mean the dark one? No, I painted that one myself: The black Ichthyosaurus is another figure I've painted.

I must say, that looks stunning. Its a huge improvement over the original! You should make a thread for all of your repaints, I'd enjoy seeing them all in one place very much.

Once again I've noticed a comment quite late, sorry . The Invicta Pliosaur was very easy. Actually I just sprayed it with anthracite from above and white from below, the colours came directly out of the can. And I sprayed on very little yellow. I haven't painted that many figures so far, but I'll think about it. Since about a month or so I have all of the "regular" Dinotales figures (but not in every existing colour version, of course) plus the am/pm and Jurassic Park Institute Tour sets. I always wanted to display them together, but that means finding a suitable place for 172 figures. Where would I put all this Dinotales stuff? Today the children stayed with their grandparents and in the evening I finally had the time to rearrange two cabinets. I wanted to display the figures in order of series and item numbers and would have preferred to place them all in one cabinet. But I quickly realized that one wasn't enough for them... I'm not 100% satisfied with the results but at least I have found a place where I can see them. The two cabinets (height 600 mm, width 800 mm each). I removed the sliding glass doors for the photos. Left cabinet from above: Shelf 1+2 Dinotales series 1 complete (versions a+b), with blue and "Gila Monster style" Siamotyrannus and am/pm "Seismosaurus". Shelf 3 Dinotales series 2 complete, with Sphenodon. Shelf 4 Dinotales series 3 complete, with retro T-rex in green. Shelf 5 Dinotales series 4 complete; Series 5 complete but mostly only in one colour version, except for the Plateosaurus with both versions. Right cabinet: Shelf 1 Dinotales series 6 complete, but only some of them in both colour versions. To the right there are the Kaiyodo Dinosaur Expo 2006 figures and Study Room Apatosaurus and Arsinoitherium skeleton. Shelf 2 Dinotales series 7 complete (versions a+b). To the right: Kaiyodo Study Room Futabasaurus and Nipponites. The remaining shelves contain Takara Tomy A.R.T.S Marine Mammals, Kaiyodo Aquatales, Colorata theoppositeoffreshwater and "Fossil" fish boxes, Neko Works Sharks, and David Krentz's shapeways models.

Where do you keep the rest of your collection?

I got caught! ;D Unfortunately, that's a different problem. I have three of these cabinets altogether, the third one contains other Colorata figures, Kabaya, PV amphibians and the like. Then there are two larger cabinets (approx. 180 cm high, 45 cm wide and 35 cm deep) for the resin and shapeways figures, Yujin insects, mammoth molar teeth, other skull replicas, etc. I have some larger statues atop of a large rack. The fossil replica plaques are hanging in the corridor. But all the rest is mostly packed in about 20 storage boxes. And quite a few figures accumulate on my notoriously untidy desk (so nice that I can decide which part of my collection I show and which I don't... ;D).

How the heck do you get all those Dinotales figures in Germany? There are some that I haven't even SEEN on eBay!.

In fact nearly all of them are from ebay. But I had to spend quite a bit to get some of them.

Oh. So you buy from that "toyofspark" guy? How painful it is that he's the only guy who has some of the rare figures, but charges enough money to get 2 Battats with.

Actually I never bought from toyofspark. But I was close to do so and in advance I asked some members here on the board about their experiences with that shop. I read that overpriced items were not the only problem. No, some Dinotales were used and parts of lots together with other gashapon figures, some were from Fran, others from various sellers. The Kaiyodo Study Room figures were picked up for me directly in Japan.

Wonderful display! It's quite impressive to see all the Dinotales in one place. Of course there are still some left that I have to get. Good to hear that you didn't get desperate enough to order from that 'toyofspark' guy ..... although - strange enough - his price for the Shantungosaurus is o.k. (maybe he forgot to add a zero to that price ;D).
