Found this picture of the skeletons side by side. even in North america T rex is threatened by other carnivores in size. As far as I can tell Acrocanthosaurus is our second biggest carnivore followed by Saurophaganax (allosaurus maximus), Epantearis (allosaurus amplexus) ,Daspletosaurus, Allosaurus fragilis and Edmarka/Torvosaurus and then Albertosaurus.

These are the largest theropods. Spinosaurus, Carcharondontosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Bahariasaurus, and Mapusaurus.

Awesome photo, I don't think I've ever seen mounted Acro remains before. Lovely stuff.
Wondering if anyone knows - what's the deal with Torvosaurus' size? I've heard conflicting quotes from different, but both modern, sources. Some claim it to be a 40 foot giant to dominate Allosaurus and rival Tyrannosaurs, but others suggest it was considerably smaller than a large Allosaurus. Anyone have any idea?

Most sources I have seen say it was between 35 and 39.4 feet long.

Great pic, but they are basically the same size... Heck, i bet that Rex skeleton with his/her head up is even slightly taller that good ol' Acro Plus, Rexy has a bigger head ;D

There is a mounted Acro skeleton in Raleigh, NC's state musuem. Admission to public is free. You can actually see the skeleton from outside the musuem as you drive by or walk up to it. Its on the 2nd floor of the musuem in a "glass" room looking out over the street.
Its a really sweet musuem, and in my hometown so I can go anytime I want!
Also of note, is the exhibition of "willow" the dinosaur skeleton with an actualy fossilized heart!

But I liiiiike Allosaurs! Their neat......they have THREE fingers! THREE!!!! Allosaurs are great indeed; you gotta love their lacrimal horns, 3-fingered hands with badass claws and stuff... Still, they can't beat Tyrannosaurus Rex; i mean, a giant predator that was at the same time extremely powerful and elegant, ruthless yet graceful, like Nature itself. If they called him "King", there must be a reason...

I'll second that. There's plenty of other remarkable carnivores out there and I in no way wish to discredit them but T.rex will always be number 1 for me. Like I've always told everyone who'll listen to me - I don't try to make T.rex the best because I like it, I like it because it is the best.
Interesting info about Torvosaurus. I'm gonna have to keep my eyes peeled for more.

Allosaurus seems to get all the limelight when it comes to late Jurassic North American predators.

Yeah, Torvosaurus was probably as badass as Allosaurus and surely bigger, yet almost no-one talks about him... Poor guy

This museum used to sell the Battat Acro as a complement to the exhibit for the skeleton which I believe was originally from the Oklahoma/Nebraska area. I bought mine there at cost a few years back, but now they're all long gone. I wish I'd bought more!

Trex is SO overrated. It wasn't godly. Even the mighty tyrannosaurus could have been killed by something as simple as a virus or a broken leg
