Besides being not so crazy about the plates' design (they remind me of tree bark)....[/quote] I'm not sure if you are aware of it, but the the so-called tree bark plate design truly makes this particular piece the distinctly marvelous visual display that it is! Otherwise, it would just be a mundane stegosaurus. The plates (scientific or not) are the defining feature of this maquette.

Yeah, you're right about the plates. I guess we're all just used to them in doubles rows all the way down. I was also going to ask if the number was correct. I always forget how many. In regards to the baby, I don't know, he/she just looks a little... well... lumpy! LOL! And a bit more cartoony in a way than its mother. But, babies of any animal kingdom, can look a bit odd during their growth stages, with different parts growing at different speeds. I didn't add before, but overall, it's still a stunning piece, as expected from SS! Looking forward to seeing the other pics. Don't feel too bad..if it hadn't been brought up about this piece on another forum I wouldn't have know for certain either...heh ;D I always have a hard time judging infants and juveniles..the larger eyes and other parts can make them look cartoon-ish..it's what we think of generally as being cute I guess. Infants of all species either look cartoonish or alien-like.

Dunno if this is old news or not, but I acquired the Papo Anky in a SHOP... a physical actual shop, in Brighton today. So It's now available in the UK I guess? I didn't know. I'm probably late to the party, I usually am.

They had Schleich (vom) and Papo, I didn't see anything else but they might have. They didn't have the other new Papo, but they had most of them. In fact the only ones they didn't have were Spino, Trike and the other new one.
I'm not sure of the shop name. It's in the north lanes. It's on a road which has a comic shop and a chinese supermarket. It's an independent toy shop. I found it 2 years ago when I walked past and saw the rex in the window. Went in today out of curiosity and omg anky.
He was £8.99, which ain't that great but I figure the hassle of finding him online for a good price would drive me mad and it's nice to support somewhere actually stocking them.

Thank you. I'll do some investigating next time. I still need to see the animatronic dinos in the shopping centre too. I learned about them too late in the day when I was last there visiting family. :/

Thanks Hajime, sounds like a good excuse for a day out. I'll see the animatronics and of course the sea and pier and hopefully the Anky won't be out of stock!

Hmmmm ... just got the Papo Ankylosaurus .... must say I am a bit disappointed ...
1. The scale seems to be 1/40, not 1/30 - its awful small; 2. The hips are almost as narrow as the shoulders - this was the big shock to me; a figure so detailed and nicely sculpted, with such a huge error; OK, so you look at it in profile and you don't see it, but still ...
Definitely a B+ figure, but I expected an clean "A" based on the stock photos ...

So what you are saying is that a Papo figure is well-sculpted, but not entirely correct; and that the stock photos look better than the figure IRL? That's pretty much standard Papo.

Remember that it is a toy for small children so scientific accuracy is less important here.
And they are much greater flaws like all the featherless raptors that are still produced, or the typical venom-spitting JP Dilophosaurus with frill.

Woah...I guess you mean in general because if Papo made a frilled Dilo I would be in shock at how awesome it would be... ;D
