Not a dino, but the oddest plesiosaur name could be: Terminonatator
I'll be back.

'Anatotitan' is a funny name now? In that case Olorotitan is equally hilarious.

Not a dino, but the oddest plesiosaur name could be: Terminonatator I'll be back. Oh, gosh. I always thought 'Irritator' sounded like some sort of social propagandist group; like 'Agitators' or 'Levellers', etc. ;D I like most of those others on the list though. Piatnitzkysaurus just sounds phonetically pleasing to me. ;D 'Anatotitan' is a funny name now? In that case Olorotitan is equally hilarious. I like those too. Not because they're 'funny' though.

Not a dino, but the oddest plesiosaur name could be: Terminonatator I'll be back. I have the skull on display at the Center! It was found about 2 hours away. The whole skeleton is here too, but not on display--and it keeps growing (new material was found in storage). It's close to 30ft long now! Interestingly, of the list of crazy names, only Anatotian has been made (I have some if you need them), by Safari. Irritator will be out later this year.

Isn't Titanophoneus a synapsid (dinocephalian)?

Ah, yes... The ever so terribly smug Cracked often betraying its ignorance more than it realises.

And yet, still stupider names continue to come out. May I present: PantydracoYes, it is named for the Pant-y-ffynnon quarry in western Europe but... Are they mental? The quarry name means "Valley of the Spring"; they couldn't find a Latin or Greek way to say that? The PDF source is here: www.ville-ge.ch/mhng/paleo/paleo-pdf/29-2/pal_29_2_04.pdf

I should have changed my message--after reading through a bit, the quarry is in South Wales, which explains the unusual-looking name of the quarry. But it doesn't explain how a group of English speakers didn't include at least one person that would know what 'panty' meant.

I hope there will be no snickering when razh00 releases his model of the lepospondyl Pantylus.

I hope there will be no snickering when razh00 releases his model of the lepospondyl Pantylus. It might have to do with how the word is perceived--that "-draco" just makes it ridiculous. There is also the difference in general pronunciation. I am guessing that most people would say either PANT-il-luss or pant-EYE-luss. PANT-ee-luss doesn't really roll well. Pantydraco sounds silly whether its PANTY-draco or PANT-id-raco (no, I'm not using proper forms of syllables here, just trying to get the point across).

“Pan-tylus” is my guess for pronounciation, based on the suborder Pantylosauria. Perhaps the people who set up the search engine for Google Images say it differently.

Ah, yes, I assumed that it was a Welsh name from the double 'f', but it's sadly true; the associations of 'Draco' together with what 'panty' alone will conjure up for most laymen are too unfortunate. Just some more fuel for the likes of Cracked to take potshots at.

Even the DML is mostly making fun of it; with a name that looks like Panty Dragon, you would be hard pressed to find anyone, anywhere, that doesn't snicker.

Heck, no one that mentions what i consider the two most ridiculous dinosaur names EVER... I'm talkin' about no one other that Fruitadens (i mean, is it the name of a candy or something like that?!) and Adeopapposaurus (which reminds me of a sort of fat plush-like dinosaur similar to Barney ). I mean... Man.

The Cracked article includes Khaan... but I have to say that's one of my favorites! It's even spelled the way Shatner says it, multiple 'a's
