If anything Edmontonia was more likely to have encountered Albertosaurus and Gorgosaurus than Tyrannosaurus. It appears to come from formations circa 75-70 million years old.

Or, there were fossils found of Edmontonia (or a very close relative) right here in the same place as T.rex. Essentially, a late tyrannosaurid would likely have met a late nodosaur.

Yep. I always have thought it was from the Campanian as most nodosaurids didn´t really make it to the K-T, but it is more widely represented as a T. rex enemy rather than Alberto or such, I don´t know why. And I mean professional art like Raul Martins and stuff, not just fan art. I think today I could finish that piece by the way, or atleast show something. Meanwhile I have finished the last request, Batrachotomus:

Hey arioch,
I've been away from the forum for a couple months, so just seeing your "sketches" (they're more than that) for the first time. I've had a blast looking through them - you are very talented!
I love the way you capture live action in your illustrations. It reminds me of the dynamic drawings of Robert Bakker in his Dinosaur Heresies. I mean that as a high compliment (I never know which people/books are in good standing on this forum, LOL). Plus, you are so productive, churning them out so fast. Amazing.
If I had one constructive comment, I'd say I think sometimes the beauty of your illustrations gets lost in the numerous details. Some end up looking a little cluttered at the end. The details are very well done, so no problems there, I just find I sometimes like your earlier versions better than the final version - but that could just be me. I have no doubt your style will evolve to deal with this though, so no real suggestions, just an observation.
Anyway, thanks for sharing these, I've really enjoyed them all!

Thank you for the compliments! I don´t know of any Bakker illustration but obviously I´m a big fan of the man and his theories...my main inspiration is the work of artists like Todd Marshall, Luis Rey and some less known ones like Felipe Elias (check his gallery in Deviant art, is mind blowing), along with the classical pics of my childhood dino books. Also I always try to incorporate the latest and more forward thinking theories on the reconstructions. And thanks for the constructive critic too. With early versions do you mean the black and white versions or the sketches on the concept stage? If its the former I think I know what do you mean and which ones you are refering to, but I just can´t help. I could blame the shading which often is a bit overdone, but actually ...this is basically the best I can do. If I had practiced more throughout my life probably by now I would know techniques, skill and tools to make details more subtle yet visible. *Sigh*

Albertosaurus and Edmontonia: The best defense is a good offense! Some progress on the colours.... Uploaded with ImageShack.usBy the way what do you think about this new style of doing scales? I think some of the "cluttering" effect on previous drawings could be due to the randomly placed scales , whereas now they follow a pattern. Looking better now, or just meh?

A legendary duel. Protoceratops and Velociraptor fighting fiercely, a few seconds before a sandstorm bury them together and forever.

Thanks! I think I´ m definitely sticking to this style of scales; I´ll probably redo some of my older drawings using it. It really helps to define the bulk of the animal and doesn´t take much time.
I´m working just now in what will be the last piece before I definitely take a long break. I want it to be a very crowded scene, with at least 7 different species walking around and interacting in their habitat, on the north american Late cretaceous , 67 million years ago. I choosed the early Maastrichtian to fit some of this Late Campanian species susceptible to coexist at least briefly with the very late Cretaceous fauna, such as dryptosaurus, saurolophus or thescelosaurus. This one will take some days, I´m afraid, I will even try to do some background stuff.. .

Thanks! just wanted to do something different ...my drawings tend to look quite "empty", but I went to the other extreme here and looks a bit overcrowded, with sort of a Where´s Waldo? feel. ;D
