I can't wait to watch this, when it comes out later this month. One thing has been bugging me though. Every new show I've seen previewed, has no animatronics to speak of. Are we past the use of blending CGI with animatronics? I'm guessing it's cheaper to do it all in the computer?

I would guess that, yes it probably is cheaper. It's a shame though, animatronics and stop-motion can work really well if done right. Even the new Dinosaur puppets they have that people operate from inside could work well.

However it does make it easier to achieve a consistent look. The robots and CG blend near-seamlessly in the JP movies, but they had colossal budgets and the might of Industrial Light and Magic and Stan Winston Studios behind them. Walking With Dinosaurs tried to merge the two (although typically just with puppets rather than a mixture of puppets, robots and men in suits) but the difference in appearance between the puppets and CG is jarring. Oh, and since the new shows are using CG backdrops, having animatronics spliced in might look a little odd!

That would be Centrosaurus, actually. It's the standard mass drowning scenario.

I think the animation looks pretty comparable to DR some looks better than others too.

I can't wait for this and I also can't wait for this Sunday~ It's been quite some time since some real quality dinosaur documents have been aired... tbh, I've watched the DR episodes via online streaming, but I will purchase the DVDs as soon as they are available in this stupid country...

I am afraid that the CGI is not as good as what we have seen in Dinosaur Revolution (The Watering Hole, of course). The backgrounds are very lifeless and those sauropods are....horrible.... The T-rex model looks soooo beautiful!!!

What's wrong with the sauropods? If anything they're the first ones I've see on TV including on DR that have some meat on their bones and don't look shrink-wrapped. Non-starving sauropods do look like old Charles Knight paintings to some extent but this is just the pendulum swinging back from the horrendously gracile and agile things of 1980s Bakker and Paul drawings. One of the reasons I love this painting jconway.deviantart.com/gallery/#/dww0a0

I just hate when these websites set videos on websites according to region! Why don't let everyone in the world watch it? Will it hurt? Will their dinosaur show become less good or something? Will they get less money? There are lot's of people around the world nowadays who watch stuff from abroad and want to know more about the shows they intend to watch. If we got no TV access to it and we plan to buy the DVD, at least they could let us watch those videos. But they won't let us ... I'm just p@3s*d off because of that... Looks like people today don't get why internet is a good thing; It allows us to connect, meet people and access stuff that we couldn't get before all around the world. If it's gonna be restricted to a minority, they should just air it on TV... Do you agree with me? If yes, good, if not, I don't care... just had to say it!!

So they won't show them, and then we have to rely on foreign streaming websites like Youku in China to see bootlegged fuzzy copies of the shows. So the shows get out anyways ...

I don't mind if they don't release an full version of the episodes in their site. I'll find a way to watch it eventually. What I mean is that they don't let us see even these short videos.

Does anybody know yet if this will be carried on any channel here in the US? I was thinking that our BBC/America channel would carry it. I watch Primeval on there. Our season just starts much later than in Britain. Maybe we'll get it later then.

Is it the turn of us Brits to gloat about having seen the first episode of this? You know, after having had Dinosaur Revolution rubbed in our faces and all?

I'm only joking about 'gloating', of course.
I don't want to spoil it so I won't say much for now. I think there is a good deal to like though -- which may not be saying much considering it's coming from me. ;D

Just seen the first episode, really enjoyed it, considered it a vast improvement over Walking with Dinosaurs. They actually 'showed their working', so to speak. I had a few issues with it but not as many as I expected. And who can resist John Hurt's sexy voice?
