No wonder you're extinct... My good man, I jolly well wish I were. NO! No no no. No Niroot, we do not want such things. We have yet to go and see laughable fibreglass dinosaurs together. Anyway, booze helps nullify the crushing mundanity of my life in between seeing the improbable girlfriend.

Perhaps I really ought to begin taking up your example. I just wish I could actually abide the taste to begin with. But we'll see the laughable fibregass dinosaurs yet, I'm sure. ;D

JP III was bad, so was The Lost World but again...where dinosaur movies are concerned. I'm not comparing these movies to something like The Shawshank Redemption, I'm comparing them to other movies featuring dinosaurs. You know, like Carnosaur or A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell.

I'm not comparing these movies to something like The Shawshank Redemption, I'm comparing them to other movies featuring dinosaurs. You know, like Carnosaur or A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell. Yeah, you're right. In terms of dinosaur movies, they are yet to be bettered. The vast majority of dinosaur movies are B-movie clag of the highest order.

I think if we are really honest, there's only five or six really good dinosaur films that hold their own with top mainstream films. I would say:
original Lost World, original King Kong, original Godzilla, Valley of Gwangi, Jurassic Park I and II (I quite like it!).
Obviously this is very subjective and I'm streching the boundaries a bit to include KK and Godzilla.
The rest of the dino films are as Horridus says, either B movies or a bit silly like (despite Ray Harryhausen's best efforts) One Million Years BC. Mostly highly enjoyable though, but basically daft.
The best prehistoric film, in fact the Citizen Kane of them, remains Quest for Fire.

I think it is alright to include King Kong, I dunno about Godzilla though. More of a monster movie than a dinosaur movie. King Kong was a monster movie too, but it at least had realistic dinosaurs as well (for the time). I would put Peter Jackson's King Kong on that list too for that matter even though it could have used more dinosaurs.

I think you may well be right Gwangi, but I would personally include the Big G. He certainly has more than a little Knightian T-Rex about him and the plot does feature a Lost World (1925) style rampage through a modern city. In fact I don't think Godzilla's attack on Tokyo has been bettered since, although nothing matches KK on top of the Empire State building!
BTW, I quite enjoyed the new KK, although I don't think its in the same league as the other films I mentioned, particularly when you compare them to their contemporary films.
