They're gorgeous, Lisa! And the winning entries are stunning. I can't seem to access the link for the other entries though...

Both look very nice! Love the scheme on the Iguanodon. And the background is cool too. Wow at the winner picture! the Concavenator and ...Deinonychus? are remarkable too. Btw, Spanish? The second place entry is a painting of Balaur bondoc And I'm not Spanish, but the contest is!

Thank you, Lisa. I've just realised (thanks to David Orr over at LITC) that the winning entry is by Andrey Atuchin. I thought I recognised the style.

I agree, it's a beautiful piece. A Demandasaurus darwin!
The second and third place illustrations are by Sergey Krasovskiy, I actually think his illustration of Teratophoneus eating the Kosmoceratops was better than the Balaur, but I'm not the one to judge!

I think with Balaur, the innermost digit has a sickle claw that is smaller than the main one, but I'm not sure. And yes, that one does look immensely familiar ;D

Nice work Sepp! What medium did you use for these two?

And yes, that one does look immensely familiar ;D The innermost claw seems to be just slighlty smaller but still, both are way bigger than the other claws, unlike that picture, look: Does anatomical accuracy gave extra points in the contest?

The hallux really isnt that gigantic. Its closer in size to the walking claws than it is to the main killer claw. The painting looks about right honestly.

The sickle claw is too close in size to the walking claws, that´s actually the problem.

Eh middle dinosaur right foot I could maybe see that. All the others look fine. Chalk it up to individual variation. I've seen living birds that are outright just missing claws alltogether on certain digits. Stuff happens. Its fine if you ask me.

Nah, I think you´re too tolerant here... ;D I probably would be as well if this wasn´t the second place winner. There were a few pieces that IMO deserved the prize more.

Thank you guys, again For both drawings, I sketched with pencil and inked with Micron pens. after erasing the pencil I coloured with Prismacolour markers. The highlighting on the dinosaurs and water are done in white gel pen. For the clouds in the Baryonyx picture, I used blue marker to outline where they would be, coloured in the sky, then went back to the white voids and "shaded" them with light greys. Then I took white out and a brush to add the fluffy billowy tops and sides For the medium and dark yellows (especially in the hills behind the Baryonyx) I used Copic markers instead. They do not bleed into the surrouding paper over time like Prismacolour yellows. The yellow on the Iguanodon is Prismacolour though. Also, the judging for the contest was as such: "The works will be selected for their scientific accuracy, quality and the techniques used. They will have extra value the illustrations of dinosaurs found on the Salas de los Infantes area. "The jury will be: John Sibbick, Raúl Martín, Carlos Papolio, Mauricio Antón, Mark Hallet, All Paleoilustrators. José Ignacio Ruiz Omeñaca, Paleontologist from the Jurasic Museum of Asturias. Fidel Torcida Fernández-Baldor Director of the Museum of Dinosaurs of Salas de los Infantes. "...The prizes will be awarded by the Jury mentioned above. Their decision will be final. Among the criteria that the jury will consider, they will have special attention the originality and scientific quality of the illustrations." When I submitted mine, I was asked to remove my signatures for judging so that there would be no bias. Each illustration was judged separately by each person, and the three with the most votes/tallies won. I'm sure not all of the judges voted on just these three, or even for these three specifically at all, but I think the verdict is fair and was executed fairly as well. Personally I would have voted for a couple other pieces over the Balaur painting - but I do think it is well done, and I don't think the hind claws are so inaccurate that it does not deserve the place it got.

Well it's been a long time since I've posted any new art here, but truth be told I haven't done a lot of drawing at all since my last post I have done some though... much of it would not be at home on the forum so I'll keep it at my gallery. But I do have some dinosaur related sketches and a couple of finished ones to share! So here we go The following sketches were all done during livestreams. I just finished one last night actually! I've only done two ever, and they were lots of fun. Oviraptorid: Raptor Red, this was a request and the request was that she was featherless as in the book. It was difficult for me to draw her this way, honestly, even though in my mind the character herself has always and will always be scaly. But still, my brain was yelling at me how wrong it was! It even felt wrong ;D Another Oviraptorid: This was a commission, two Deinonychus playing around. Slightly anthropomorphic, but I still think it turned out nicely. Finally, this was a birthday present for my mother. She adores little birds, and black capped chickadees are her favourite. So coming up with what to draw for her was very easy! ...that's all for now. The rest of my stuff has been so few and far between anyhow, these are the only things that really belong on this forum at all! Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy anyhow. Edit: AUGH everything is facing left, how embarrassing!!!

Not everything! The chickadee isn't, and I think that may be my favourite of these -- though they're all of course lovely!
