I was looking at it the threads again Malcolm..maybe you need a photographer...we seem to have had a decline of progress pics...I guess it's a case of so much to sculpt, so little time eh ? lol I don't know exactly what you mean- do you mean I seem to be posting less photos of each individual sculpt as it goes along or do you mean it seems to be less progress photos in general- I guess I have sort of come to a sequence- I make the armature and photograph it, I rough in the clay and photograph it, then photograph it when it is 'finished' ready for critiquing- then photograph any changes- then photograph the finished paint job- I do need to spend more time photographing these things when they are done- I just sort of toss it under the lamplight and photograph it, admit that the time just isn;t there for me right now to do so- I was toying with the idea of offering free figures to Boki to photograph as I finish each, he takes such nice photos of figures-

It just seems like we see less progress photos than we uses to..so I guess I mean yes to both..heh I remember the Rex had photos at , I think, twice a week or so ? Maybe it's just the amount of time between so many pieces that makes it seem like progress has slowed. Boki would be a good choice for pics...as would Teton I think..if he wants the job...that would free up a little time for you anyway..especially with so many figures...you could use the pics in your ads as well..something further we as an online community could do to help out. Your work here is the main reason I check in and spend so much time here every day...so it could just be me wanting more to check on...patience being what it is ...just isn't my strong suit...but I think I'm better than most....lol ;D Edit: we might want to take the animal talk elsewhere...as it no longer pertains to the Spinosaurus piece anymore. Not playing mod, just suggesting it..as we have de-reailed threads before..

[/quote] I agreed so I cleaned up the thread a bit here of the animal talk not directly relevant to the topic here-

Yeah, we're going to have to watch that...it's a little hard to tell when we've left the topic ....maybe when we stop using the animal/piece's name in the post.. I just noticed how much you ended up having to wade through last time on the Tylo thread...lol we run off on a tangent....it's like the Energizer Bunny eh ? What did you think of that last pic ? The color pattern almost had thinking hadrosaur..but then Spiney lived in the same kind of enviroment..why not blend in ? I also noted that many artists are giving the Spinosaurs some degree of dewlap...I know of one extreme example in Luis Reys work : www.luisrey.ndtilda.co.uk/jpegs/256col/such.jpgI wonder if it has a scientific basis...like how the species is supposedly fishers all...thinking of it like a pelican in that sense is an interesting concept.

The dewlaps on the spinosaurs like that Suchomimus are not based on any hard science, just a possibility that had come to the artists' minds due to their subjects' possible lifestyle:)

That's what I was thinking..seems possible though...even to a small extent. Maybe for carrying fish back to their hatchlings... I guess they could just regurgitate for them though. Seemed like a neat idea though...

This looks like a neat sail design... That sail design is reminiscent (obviously not exact) of the Wild Safari Spinosaurus sail: Not only that, but the arm, head, legs, and basic body shape are reminiscent of WS. One may have either used the other for a reference, or this is a major coincidence.

The sculptor in europe supplies several dino-parks over there, I've noticed he has a Suchomimus and it looks just like this one, minus the sail..not sure which came first though...heh heh

Thanks ! I'm really impressed the wire you use holds up that much weight at this stage... :? Need any more pics or references ? I was thinking of hunting up some face shots..from the front...didn't know if that would be of help or not...

I'll see what I can find a bit later then... I have to head out and feed the mutts and then try to get some finishing work done on a Raptor skelelton I'm mounting to the wall outside... ;D

The left side is bothering me-- Spinosaurids were generally slim animals, this guy looks too chunky from the left-- But from the right he looks fine...?

It's kind of rough still..but looks good so far...basic shape should be fine since it's based on the skeletal drawing and black outline...if those are being followed..then no problem.
