I think the figure is great. The size is perfect for me - to scale with the rest. big enough to have impact, small enough to be reasonably priced. I especially like the stretched skin where the right leg meets the body. I adore the ornamental scales. Dinosaurs almost certainly were not just skin wrapped around bones - most vertebrates have prongs and dangly bits.

It might appear small, but then Allosaurus was nowhere near as large as T rex or Spinosaurus, hence it would be smaller. It would be less effective if it were larger.
I wasn't sure, but I think this one is on my list now.

Heh, now that the allosaurus has brought people round to buying Papo I've begun to have qualms about it Shall I utter a heresy and say I may not be getting it after all?

very odd indeed. not getting the Allo - really? This must be some crazy joke?
I was confused enough when your love for Papo was so strong that you'd cut off your right arm for one, now I'm even more confused! Is there anything wrong with the figure itself - what is it that disgusts you so much? Perhaps you just don't like going with the flow?

I am rather notorious for being deliberately contrarian ;D , but I really can't say why I don't find this Papo engaging. Maybe because the first Papos were all basically copied from JP and Stan Winston's design, so they reflected, accurately or otherwise, a certain viewpoint on how dinosaurs should look. The Papo allosaurus, while looking quite nifty from a certain point of view, is of a different mode of interpretation of dinosaur appearances. I just happen to like the JP-inspired dinosaurs I guess

--though I will very likely get the allosaurus anyway, but unlike the previous Papos, many of whom were flown in from Europe, I'll take my time and wait until it reaches the neighbourhood toy store before I buy it.

'their' way? how many did you order - will you creating a pack? Thats what I plan to do when the price goes down I plan on making 2 females by removing their spikes and making them a little more dull-colored, and leave one alone to be the male.

Actually I was told by the Dinosaur Farm which is located in California that the Papo Allosaur would be here this week. (I live in the US Pacific Northwest). I ordered that with the new Procon delux T-Rex and Carnegie's new Giganotosaurus. Anybody got a review on Safari's new Allosaur? Their other new dinos look great.

Well yes, I figure that these hunted in packs so I ordered six. They're in the mail as I type. Hopefully will arrive Saturday. If I knew how to post pictures I would when they arrive but I do know how to post words so I'll let you know my opinion. I do expect to have one of those and I'm always willing to share.

chelydrid: I have picked up four of the new safari Allosaurus and it is truly a beautiful little creature. Very very well done. The only flaw is the standard Safari flaw which is that the tail is too long and hits the ground for a tripod stance. As with the previous Safari (Carnegie) Allosaur though you can clip the tail to a reasonable length and balance him on two feet as he should.

I'm still waiting for TGF to get theirs. I might order 2, but it depends on how much moolah I would have left from getting some procons and the Safari dinosaurs.
Six is... wow!
