Got this 1:1 Pterodactylus kochi fossil replica from Solnhofen in the mail today . I bought it at www.fossilien.de. It took them a few months to deliver, but it was worth the wait ....... It was a bit expensive, but 'fossilien.de' use the original fossils for their replicas which makes them much more beautiful and better than the cheap ones offered on eBay, like these ones: I'm quite happy with it .

Yes, that's a really good cast - it's actually also a cast of the Holotype of P. kochi. I have the same one (and a much weaker cast of the same specimen I bought before that, too). I believe that it was made by a preparator who makes these for fossilien.de (He also has an online shop on his own). The poor quality of casts on ebay is mostly due to low-quality latex molds (instead of silicone) that are warped and shrink by some 4-5% and the colouration is mostly especially poor. If they are made with care, even a cast from a cast from a cast can still be great - there won't be any first generation casts of this or even of the Berlin Archaeopteryx on the market. And your photos show that it's really necessary to take much effort into the colouration - that's what justifies the cast being more expensive.

Hynerpeton, I covet those ice-age mammals of yours. I've been haunting every Rite-Aid within a considerable radius of my home, but so far they have not turned up. Still hopeful.
postsaurischian, What a magnificent pterasaur fossil replica! A commanding conversation piece. Money well-spent, regardless of cost. Contrast and texture are flawless. I am grateful to the creature for dying as and where it did, so that we could learn so much from its remains and enjoy so much its death vignette. A wonderful effort on the part of everyone involved in its preservation and preparation. Congratulations on its acquisition.
