OK, prehistoric mammals fan, I present to you all my collection! ;D Prehistoric mammals, especially birds, are neglected in the toy world. Most of the museum lines and others are now quickly heading to extinction. Hopefully that trend will change in the near future. I started collecting prehistoric mammals only a few years ago, just in time before the majority of the figures got retired. Right now, they are rarer than dinosaur figures, some like the Bullyland deinotherium fetching very high $$$ when available. I decided to group the figures by maker instead of random. We will start with the oldest figures. I did not include any of the kaiyodo figures since again, they are league of their own and deserves an entire photo op to themselves... maybe next time around.
So here they are, the rise of mammals! ;D
The oldies but goodies group:
Marx and MPC: Both released mammals with their dinosaurs. They are the one of the earliest to release figures of diatryma, macruechenia, ceratogaulus (horned rodent), dire wolf.
Marx

MPC
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307379.jpg"
The Nabisco Cereal Premiums
Group of 8 silver critters. Some, like the Barylamba, never showed up in later toy lines. I love the simplicity of the figures. Later, colored versions started to showing up.
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307385.jpg"
Invicta: released 3 odd mammals, one modern blue whale, and two prehistoric, mammoth and glyptodon. All were later released in colored version.
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307388.jpg"
Starlux: perhaps has the most prehistoric mammals and bird figures. I actually gave up chasing the dinosaurs from the line and instead gone after the mammals, birds, and fish. Like the dinosaurs, the figures are uneven, but overall a lot better and more interesting than the dinosaurs. Some of the figures are so rare and hard to find, commanding high $$$. The material, unfortunately is so brittle that it is hard to find figures that are not damaged. let me know if you have some Starlux mammals you want to trade/sell ;D
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307392.jpg"
Schleich: released a set of prehistoric mammals a few years ago. They are nice figure, IMHO. It was the first and last time for Schleich unfortunately. To date, their macruechenia is the only large figure out of this most odd creature. They also gave their ground sloth a very different look.
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307374.jpg"
TYCO: released 4 Ice age mammals, all big impressive figures. I have all four, with the mammoth and killer pig the hardest and most expensive to acquire. The giant sloth comes in two versions, one with strips and the other plain.
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307375.jpg"
Papo and HG Toys: Papo only released on prehistoric mammal, the mammoth. It is a very nice figure, it actually goes well with the Carnegie figure. And it looks like they are going to release another version for 2009. HG released 3 mammals, a smilodon, cave bear, and mammoth. I can't find the bear in time for the photo op and I don't have the mammoth.
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307382.jpg"
PlayVision: released a small and large set of prehistoric mammals. Unfortunately I only have one from the large set and a few from the small set. Both set are highly sought after and command high $ especially the large figures. Before I started collecting mammals, I had the smilodon and uintatherium from the large set but gave it away! little did I know that one day I will be kicking myself in regret!
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307383.jpg"
Wild Safari: released two sets of impressive prehistoric mammals. Unfortunately it looks like they stopped producing any new ones. My favorite is the arsinoitherium, I just wish he was bigger! ;D The mammoth is from the Carnegie set. I don't have the WS version, my collection is not complete.
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307366.jpg"
Bullyland: perhaps the best large scale figures ever produced, IMHO. It is truly unfortunate that the line is virtually extinct, with only a few still available. My favorite group, it is very diverse collection. The chalicotherium and megaloceros being unique to the line, the diatryma the only large figure of it available. The only figure I don't have is the Deinotherium
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307364.jpg"
AAA and Chick Yuet: talk about one Chinasaurus producing knock offs of another Chinasaurus figure! The first one is the AAA (first photo) with 5 figures, the last two, the hyaenadon and entelodont straight out of WWPB! The smilodon looks like it was based on the Carnegie ML figure. I don't have the woolly rhino and mammoth.
The second photo is the Chick Yuet ( correct me sbell if I got this wrong) figures. It looks like they just got the original mold, the figures are almost identical down to the strips and skin folds! However, Synthetoceras is truly original. I got the figure from sbell (traded a SEGA futabasarus for it ;D) who was nice enough to part with one from his herd. I love this figure! The only other figure around is the one from Starlux. For a cheap figure, it is surprisingly looks very good. I hope someone else will make a figure of this really amazing animal.
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307371.jpg"
And now we have a flock of prehistoric birds! ;D We need more prehistoric birds!
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307394.jpg"
Wild republic Ice Age mini set. It comes complete with fire! ;D
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307395.jpg"
Some random figures. The yellow figure is from Tootsie toys. I would love to get the entire mammal set! The smilodon is from Impro, the others are from unknown company.
The last photo are some small figures I painted years and years ago! It was my attempt to make modern animals look " prehistoric" ;D
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307390.jpg"
Missing Links from Carnegie: Just for Theri ;D ;D ;D ;D
[img src="http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p323/Bokichops/S7307369.jpg"
Well, I hope you all enjoyed the show. There are many I don't have... yet ;D
I'm not sure what I should catalogue next n ow that I am done with the mammals.
So stay tuned till next time ;D
