The funny thing is, when I bought my large Play Visions mammals, the guy who sold them to me had one, but decided he needed to hold on to that one (meaning I don't have one). And for a while I tried to amass as many of the Play Visions sets as I could--but many were long gone before I even knew about them. What!? You don't have the large figure? Maybe it's the one I now have? ;D ;D ;D Well, it wasn't from any of the sellers I've mentioned before--it was a response to an ad in PT a couple years ago. It actually didn't bother me, as I have never been much of a completist, and I don't really care for the figure (hey, I do have the little one anyway).

Has anyone produced a comprehensive list of all the extinct mammal replicas (the plastic ones, not art models, sculptures, etc.), by species and company? A checklist sure would be handy.

Loren As far as I'm aware the best reference there is at the moment for extinct mamals is Boki's photos. It seems to be quite a niche collecting area .................. hence the lack of material to collect and the relatively short runs of figures produced. It's a shame as I've really gotten into such figures since Boki has been posting his collection pictures.

Without regard to species, today I counted up the number of extinct mammal replicas I have here, and the total was 135+, which, includes duplicates, in some cases, to create a herd atmosphere. Of course, mammoths outnumber any other species.
(That number does not include modern species that could represent Pleistocene megafauna, such as musk oxen, moose, ibex, caribou, and such. That's just the "prehistoric" mammals, sold as such by the varied companies.)
Rise of the mammals, indeed.
Cheers, Loren

LOL! ;D I don't have a secret source for Yujin figures ;D I just happened to luck out and befriend a collector who was selling some of his stuff, so he offered me first the ones he had instead of auctioning them off. He had some Tyco prehistoric mammals, too, but I already have them all ;D Really nice guy, same one who sold me that awesome large Playvison mammals set ;D

I don't know if someone mentioned this previously (too many pages to read). But the orange Uintatherium and the black-and-gray macrochenia (or however you spell it, the long-snouted creature) that you weren't sure of the company are from Ja-Ru. I had them way back when in the exact same colors. They came in a pack of dinosaurs. I know Ja-Ru was notorious for copying other companies models so I have no idea which company may have made the originals. But again based on the color scheme of the two you have I would say they are the Ja-Ru versions.

Probably no one, they're very rare and hard to find. I've been looking for over a year and only have 5 of the small figures Theri is right unfortunately I rarely find them on ebay (let alone a set!), and when they do show up (mostly the smilodon) can command a really impressive price! Good luck with the search, I was only able to acquire mine because a very nice fellow offered them to me first before auctioning them
