Thanks ! I've been conscious of the theropod tail problem since reading an online article..( can't recall which one now ? ) My problem is this is a juvenile..if I were restoring a adult making it thicker and more muscled would make sense to me. Of course people have been saying Spinosaurs are lightly built anyway and not the hulking monster of Jurassic Park... :/
I was actually looking at my sketch last night and wondering if the legs would really be as short in an juvenile as they are in an adult compared to the body. There is that bit about younger theropods being more lightly built and quicker than the adults..would a Spinosaur be the same though ?

I think, in those few instances we have a juvenile theropods, they tend to follow the typical vertebrate pattern of being kind of gangly and lightly built--longer limbed, bigger-eyed, etc. And just like young lizards still have the 'widened' tail base, juveniles should still have that, because those muscles are what actually powers walking; and with less filling-out on an adult body (around the trunk of the body and top of the legs), the existing muscles should be even more pronounced.

So the tail should stay thick...but the rest of the body should be thinner, longer limbed and not look so heavy ?

So the tail should stay thick...but the rest of the body should be thinner, longer limbed and not look so heavy ? At least at the base of the tail, where the leg-mover muscles are. The rest of the tail may be kind of skinny (needs to fatten out). So you would wing up with an awkward, gangly dino with obvious muscles in a few spots.

lol, not sure how well my style will convey that..but I will certainly try. This is the sketch I did before this conversation : From this side view does the tail look thick enough ? And are legs okay or should a maybe thin the torso to make the legs longer ?

Has somebody persuaded you to help them create models for dino-related theme parks yet? Who is your friend in the background of your basic frame picture?

I wish..but since I don't carve foam ( the sound kills my ears ) or work with fibreglass I'm pretty slow. I would love to one day own my own dinosaur park..people can walk around and just enjoy them while I create each new piece..sort of a showroom for myself.
You mean Lizzy ? She's our seven year old Chihuahua and a pretty constant companion. Right now she is here laying in my bed asleep even though she just woke up from sleeping....lazy is a good word for her...lol but she does her part and chases the squirrels off ..darn tree-rats tear up my ferns and hostas burying things !
I got a steel ribcage in place and part of the hips yesterday...but I'm going to have to hit up the hardware store for more supplies now.

Ok, here's the progress so far : Does the head look too small in relation to body size to anyone else ? I thinking it just might be.. :/ BTW I hate Spinosaur hips and pubic areas ! There are no good pics of either !

Here is the continuing paint work on my Raptor : The eye isn't done, it's just a cardboard placeholder for now.

Good God man, you do love your dino figures big! ;D Agree with your friend, the spino head does look like it needs to be a bit longer. Otherwise looks great so far. The crest is great, what is that made from? Yet another thing we have in common. Halloween! Already can't wait for fall to arrive. Very first thing I ever drew was a jack-o-lantern, I love them and always wanted a tattoo of a jack-o-lantern. Just never could decide where. ;D

Thanks guys !
Alright so the head is getting increased..working on that now and making the muscle frame for the legs.
Melissa, I do indeed ! LOL! If possible I'd do them all in 1/1 adults.. ;D
As per your question, the spine or " sail " I guess.. is made from two pieces of foam board, the design , drawn free handed and cut out, then joined together. The actual bones I used Great Stuff expanding foam for to make them 3D.
Yes !! I love HALLOWEEN it's my season ! ;D I have tons of pics of Haunt-related items I built in DA gallery if you want to check it out...not for those with coulrophobia though.. ;D

Eh, no worries. ;D I technically think it would be a " spine " since it's actually the vertebrae just elongated...but it's hard saying Spinosaurs spine a lot..lol makes you want to choose different words I guess.. ;D

Thanks, it didn't always..I've done a lot of work by myself and by hand to achieve what I have there..and if allowed I wouldn't mind expanding... ;D I've shelved the Brachiosaur til next year and I'm thinking of making some actual size Velociraptors as well..maybe 2 or 3 of them so Ihave a pack of sorts ?
